At the start of 2023 I was told the knee pain I have been dealing with for 3 years was arthritis in my left hip. It’s a weird, deferred pain thing.
I asked the surgeon what would have caused it hockey, golf, having triplets? He said yeah maybe but we’re here now we just need to get on with it. He told me it is severe, and I needed to have a hip replacement. Well, it was all a bit of a shock and I wanted to know what the alternatives were.
In the last year I’ve tried loads of different things – acupuncture, pilates, strengthening exercises, long walks, cortisone injections. All of which have helped but it’s got to the point now where I’m changing things in my life because of the pain. I’m even walking with a stick. (thanks Jenny)
In February this year I scheduled the operation as enough was enough. The big day is the 21st of May and it sounds like I should allow for being out of action for 6 weeks!! Jeepers.
I’ve been reading what to expect, loads of people say it will change your life – but still it’s major surgery. Anyway thought I’d document my journey through my blog.

Hi Lisa, good luck with the new hip. I know lots of people with fantastic outcomes from hip replacement – the pain goes…..
Tell the grumpy old man I’ll try to organise a call this week.
