So John’s has been dry retching for 2 weeks and couldn’t eat due to nausea – he’s been getting steadily worse. He couldn’t walk without being dizzy and was generally pretty fucked and very annoying.

• Monday – visit to the oncologist where on seeing John she ordered a full body scan
• Wednesday – 1 hour after scan we get a call to say John has a tumour at the base of his skull which is undoubtedly cancer. I had to bring him to the A&E for further tests
• Thursday – neurosurgeon thinks the tumour can be removed but wants to see the full body scan to know cancer isn’t anywhere else.
• Friday – confirmed cancer isn’t anywhere else in the body – John can go home.
• What’s next? There is a meeting on Tuesday with all the specialists involved in John’s care and they will agree a treatment plan. Surgery is likely to be in the next couple of weeks.

2020 certainly hasn’t turned out the way we thought it would.
